Discover one of the world's most unusual amphibians with the Papo 56066 Axolotl. The axolotl is a fascinating aquatic salamander native to the lakes and canals around Mexico City. Unlike many other amphibians, the axolotl spends its entire life in water.
One of the most distinctive features of the axolotl is the set of feathery external gills on either side of its head. Remarkably, this unusual salamander reaches adulthood while retaining several juvenile characteristics, a phenomenon known as neoteny. This gives the axolotl its instantly recognisable appearance.
Papo has carefully recreated this extraordinary freshwater creature in the Papo 56066 Axolotl figure. Its broad head, elongated body, tail and characteristic external gills have all been reproduced with close attention to the animal's natural morphology.
Like other Papo animal figures, the Axolotl is hand-painted and finished with great attention to realism and detail. It is ideal for imaginative play, discovering the fascinating diversity of aquatic wildlife or adding to a collection of realistic animal figures.
The Papo 56066 Axolotl combines perfectly with other fish, amphibians and aquatic animals from the Papo collection.
